Hello kitty.

One of the restaurants in our hood moved house in the autumn of 2021 - and with that they made a move onwards and upwards that they wanted their tableware to reflect. Yips does high-quality casual Asian food in a mix of take-away and eat-in, quite different from the restaurants we usually work with, making the challenge even more interesting.

We created tableware that has visual references to disposable products, made in a material and with a finish that lifts them into the restaurant world and enhances the dining experience. Just like disposables, these plates are made as functional as possible with minimum material usage.

The expression is s mix of perfect precision and handmade randomness, the centre part of the plate defined by a precise line, while the edges have a variation that softens the look. They are made in in strong but rather rough clay with a palette of muted colours all based on the same glaze.

The gang is made up of rectangular plates, round plates, small bowls, soup bowls and cutlery rests, all in a strong clay glazed with muted colours.

The round plates are approximately 18 cm, with a centre part defined by a precise line and a slightly random edge which softens the look.

All the plates stack well and tight, an imporant feature in a busy restaurant.

The waving cat is stamped into wet clay by hand, which creates a slight variation in depth and placement.

The cutlery rests are made by compressing clay in a sharp and precise mould, creating yet another meeting of the perfect and rough.

The plates and bowls have a visual reference to disposable products, but are lifted into the restaurant world by their ceramic material and high-quality finish.
