The neon-earthy-Japan project.

In the spring of 2024 we were asked to cover the complete tableware needs of some nice people in a nice home in Stavanger. They had some input on functions and quantities, and having just come back from a trip to Japan, they wanted something inspired by what they had seen - but in the Odd Standard way, of course.

After some discussions, we found the term neon-earthy-Japan to be a good aesthetic guideline for the project. While many of our private-homes-customers are fond of matching products and colours, the case was the opposite her - as it often is in Japanes tableware. We dived into different clays, colours, expressions and techniques, and are happy to say that we learnt a new thing or two from this project.

The final result. includes a great many different expressions that somehow work together in a total that is very out of the ordinary.

The project became the starting point for this plate, now a part of our collection and knows as the Spiff Semi.

The project involved several custom versions of known favourites, such as the carved Bowler bowls.

An Odd Standard kind of moodboard; several products and post-it notes are used to explain (mostly to ourselves) what the final outcome should be.
